The Role
We are looking for an Information Classification Specialist to support the classification workstream of an information governance programme for a client in the architecture, engineering and construction sector. You will design the classification framework and the policies and handling rules behind it, then work with the client to apply it across their information estate.
Implementation is in Microsoft Purview. Direct Purview experience is welcome but not essential — we care more that you will already have experience of information classification, sensitivity and handling controls, and you are familiar with Purview information protection and data loss prevention modules to configure and implement information classification policies and standards.
You will work alongside our data governance lead on the same programme, and engage directly with client leadership and their governance bodies. The role is full time on one client engagement initially, with potential to support similar work elsewhere. Reports to the Data Governance Lead.

Responsibilities
- Support the design of the classification framework — scheme, sensitivity levels and the criteria for applying them
- Support the development of  the supporting policies, standards and handling rules, aligned to existing client policies and regulatory requirements
- Run information asset discovery and maintain the asset register with business owners
- Configure sensitivity labels, auto-labelling rules and the handling controls attached to them, piloting with selected business areas before scaling
- Plan and manage Purview implementation classification workstream, including milestones, dependencies and risks
- Report progress to Digimasters and client leadership, prepare papers for the Information Governance Committee, and keep the workstream aligned with the parallel data governance and quality work
- Support user guidance and training so classification is applied consistently, and act as escalation point for edge cases

Expectations in the Role
- Practical understanding of information classification — sensitivity levels, handling rules and the judgement calls involved
- Experience implementing classification policies and standards in Purview
- Experience designing or configuring classification rules, labels or workflows in an enterprise environment
- Confident presenting recommendations to senior stakeholders and governance forums
- Organised and self-managing — able to run a project and report on it without close supervision
- Pragmatic about adoption, and happy to learn Microsoft Purview quickly if you have not used it before

Qualifications
- Proven experience in information governance, information security, records management or data protection, with classification as a core part of the role
- Experience implementing classification schemes or information handling standards in an enterprise or consulting environment
- Experience applying sensitivity labels or equivalent controls to a live information estate
- Microsoft Purview experience is an advantage but not essential — equivalent classification, DLP or records management platforms are welcome
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and UK GDPR, and familiarity with ISO 27001 and ISO 42001 is a plus
- Experience managing projects and reporting to governance committees or senior leadership
- Excellent communication skills. AEC sector experience a plus. Eligible to work in the UK
 
This is a Hybrid role and does require candidates to work in central London as well as remotely. We do not sponsor visas so you must already be eligible to work in the UK.
